5 Top Makeup Tips for Trans Women

When approaching makeup for the first time, it can be very overwhelming to figure it all out. There are a lot of products out there and in the beginning, you may not know the best use for all of them. That’s why we created a list of our 5 top makeup tips for trans women, including how to soften features and conceal beard shadow!

 1. Brighten Your Under Eyes

The first thing you want to do is make your eyes pop. Our attention is naturally drawn to the eyes when we meet someone for the first time. But before applying eyelash extensions and colourful eyeshadows, you can brighten your eyes using a colour corrector and/or a concealer.

SHOP LIQUID CORRECTOR 2.0

Our Liquid Corrector is sheer, buildable and super easy to blend. It feels ultra lightweight on the skin, and was designed specifically for brightening the under eye.

Jecca Blac’s Correct & Conceal Palette provides a fuller coverage and is ideal for makeup wearers who want a multi-use colour corrector that provides buildable coverage to anywhere on the face that you have any darkness or blue undertones. If you have undereye darkness, apply the Colour Correct shade to any dark blueish undertones, then follow this by patting some of the Concealer part of the palette on top to blend in with the rest of your base.

Shop Correct & Conceal PALETTE

Extra tip: apply some of the Concealer under your eyebrow, defining the arch. It will help define your brows, thus brightening the eye area!

2. Conceal Beard Shadow

SHOP OUR BEARD COVERAGE COLLECTION

You can also use the Correct & Conceal Palette to cover any beard shadow. The pink/peach tone of the Colour Correct is perfect to counteract the dark blueish undertones left after shaving. You can either use your fingers or a foundation makeup brush to apply the Colour Correct part of the Palette over the whole of the beard area, focusing on any areas that need extra colour correction. Start with a small amount and blend really well, before adding more product if needed.

After the Colour Correct, remember to apply the Concealer to even out the area with the rest of your skin. The Concealer part of the Palette can be used in place of a Foundation.

 3. Contour: Play with Shadows & Light

An amazing trick to feminise the face is to play with shadows. You can create any look with the right contouring technique, thus transforming the appearance of your features. Jecca Blac’s Sculpt & Soften Palette features a 34-page guide detailing different ways of applying the product to achieve different looks tailored to every different type of facial feature and desired result.

A basic tip is applying the darker shade of the palette to create the illusion of higher cheekbones. Instead of following your natural lines, trace a new one from the end of your ear to the edge of your mouth, adding a little flick upwards at the end.

 Shop Sculpt & Soften

Softening the features is also achievable by drawing light to different areas of the face. Our Sculpt & Soften Palette is ideal to create any type of contouring, including a softer look.

With a small fluffy makeup brush, apply the lighter shade in the Sculpt & Soften Palette (shade 'Soften') on all the areas where the sun naturally hits your face (your nose bridge, your forehead, over your cheekbones). Use this shade to soften any harsh line left over by the shadows you previously created with the darker shade.

You can add a touch of shimmer to the high points of the face and body to draw extra attention to these areas and complete your contour. Our Glow Drops highlighting primers can be applied using a brush or your fingertips - apply before makeup for a dewy base, or concentrate the product when completing your look by adding a touch of glow to anywhere you want to draw extra light to!

Another great way to combine both the Sculpt & Soften Palette and our Glow Drops is to create a boob contour - watch this super quick and easy to follow video showing how to do just that!

4. Define Your Lips

If you would like to create an appearance of fuller, more defined lips, you can once again use the Sculpt & Soften Palette. With a small, lip makeup brush use the lighter shade to overdraw your lips. Don’t exaggerate if you want a natural look.

Get creative by mixing and matching, or keep it simple by wearing one shade all over.
